Movie director Michael Bay is to step into the world of virtual reality.

The Transformers, Bad Boys, Pearl Harbour and Armaggedon filmmaker has partnered with start-up firm Rogue Initiative to produce original IP for VR.

According to the announcement release, “the new collaboration will produce immersive, virtual adventures offering gritty, danger-close action coupled with Michael Bay’s signature style and storytelling that fans all over the world have come to expect from his blockbuster action films”.

Bay’s project will be the first “cinematic-style VR” title from Rogue Initiative, with Bay himself serving as strategic advisor for the studio.

Rogue Initiative was formed earlier this year by a number of games industry and Hollywood execs, including former Infinity Ward producer Pete Blumel.

“I’ve always loved finding ways of bringing Hollywood creatives together with triple-A video game developers,” Blumel said at the time. “Virtual reality is another great catalyst in building that bridge.”
