Troubled Australian studio shuts up shop; was working on unannounced LucasArts game

Transmission Games goes under

Melbourne-based Transmission Games has closed, according to new reports.

The studio, which earlier this month shed some 30 staff from its coding and QA teams to cut costs, had reportedly experienced a number of problems with payments from publishers and cancelled projects.

Formerly known as IR Gurus, the studio is best known for its Heroes Over The Pacific title.

But it had run into problems getting royalties back from Red Mile, the original publisher of that title’s sequel.

Ubisoft had intervened to help that project out, but since then other aborted projects – including, it is claimed, a LucasArts game based on George Lucas’ WW2 fighter plane movie Red Tails – seem to have accelerated the team’s demise.

According to the report on Tsumea, Transmission has chosen voluntary administration.
