Treat yourself to some free developer tools for Christmas

Are you one of those people who takes the opportunity to treat yourself in the run-up to Christmas, and returns from the Christmas shopping excursion with a few goodies for yourself? It’s nice to treat ourselves a little bit at this time of the year, and we all love to pick up a bargain.

That’s why I’ve rounded up a collection of free developer gifts from Intel Developer Zone that you might find useful or entertaining:

• Dev Story: Hack the Code – Download an Android game, and then grab the code. It’s not often you get to peek behind the curtain and see how an app works, so this is a treat for game players and developers alike.
• Developer Field Guide – Something to read after the Queen’s speech when the family is napping and you’re planning your next app. This guide walks you through the process of developing an app with useful resources and tutorials for ideation, design, build, and launch. Scroll down the page to find the resources.
• Intel Integrated Native Developer Experience (Intel INDE) – Improve your productivity with this cross-platform development suite. Productivity might not seem like an exciting prospect at Christmas time, but the more time you save on recoding, the more time you can spend doing creative coding and other things you love.
• Intel XDK – One for the growing ranks of HTML5 developers out there, this tool makes it easier to create HTML5 web and hybrid apps across multiple app stores, and form factor devices. Did I mention it’s also free, like all these other resources?
• Intel Appvent Calendar – Beatrice Fraedrich, Intel Software evangelist, is tweeting an Android app a day in the run-up to Christmas, helping you to discover some great new Android games that have been tested to work on Intel technology-based devices, many of them free. Follow Beatrice for the daily recommendations, and if you’ve made a great discovery (or a great app), why not suggest it for inclusion?
