Robin Kaminsky, the former executive vice president of publishing at Activision Blizzard, has joined the board of Trion Worlds.
Trion is the developer of MMO titles Rift and Defiance, and is looking for ways to adapt the tried and tested mechanics of the genre to a free-to-play market.
Kaminsky has had a varied career as an executive not just at Activision, but in several leading industry names like Gaikai.
She now hopes to bring this experience to bear on the unique challenges facing Trion.
“I love their approach to the market,” she told VentureBeat.
“They are very much at the cutting edge as an online team. The have put a real emphasis on free-to-play. I believe the future is in online free-to-play games, and so I am excited to be involved with them.”
Kaminsky says that Trion has a full pipeline with upcoming titles like End of Nations and ArcheAge.
Even if the company stuck with its current titles it would have its hands full.
Rift went free-to-play in June and Defiance - which has a symbiotic relationship with a SyFy channel TV show – faced a rocky start despite its popularity on Television.
