Latest listing shows Forza 2 propelling studio to top spot

Turn 10 rules monthly UK developer chart

We’ve just updated our exclusive monthly developer chart which reveals that Microsoft’s internal team Turn 10 has helped the format holder jump straight to the top of the chart thanks to the release of Forza 2 last month.

The chart is based on the sale of studios’ games at UK retail in the month of June and is supplied by Chart-Track, exactly like our yearly Develop 100 report.

In comparison to last month’s chart the ranking shows a number of independents doing the business at retail falling considerably, but those that are in the list have upped their game – with Eurocom in the UK (third in the chart) and Canada’s Next Level Games (9th) presumably anticipating their next royalty statements thanks to the continued success and strong sales of franchise titles Pirates of the Caribbean and Mario Strikers.

Nintendo, meanwhile, rises up to to second place in the chart after last months slip to third – but the studio has never been far from the top place since the roll out of the Wii. Slow-burn sales of Wii add-on games such as Wii Play continue to boost the coffers – something no doubt set to continue thanks to the recent release of More Brain Training.

Elsewhere, most notable risers are Crystal Dynamics and Codemasters. The former studio has raced to fourth from 79th thanks to Tomb Raider-remake Anniversary.

Arguably perhaps more impressive is Colin McRae: DiRT’s fast-tracking Codemasters up to fifth place thanks to Xbox 360 software sales. The team’s R&D investment in its Neon engine, showcased and debuted with DiRT, has clearly paid off and should set the studio in good stead as it moves all its internally developed next-gen games over the the middleware.
