We R Interactive also appoints NCsoft founder Geoff Heath as company advisor

UK social publisher awarded $200,000 EU grant

UK-based social games publisher We R Interactive has been awarded with a $200,000 grant from the EU’s Media programme, it has been announced.

The money will go toward pre-production of its new online music game I Am Star.

The grant was given as part of the EU’s initiative aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the European film, TV and new media industries.

NCsoft founder Geoff Heath has also been appointed as an advisor to the publisher, where he will be involved in company strategy, commercial development and best practice.

“The UK has tremendous heritage in games, music and film, the combination of which has tremendous global potential,” said We R Interactive CEO David Rose.

“So much has been stated about the lack of support for the UK industry in comparison to global competition, therefore it’s fantastic to see a UK games company recognised through this European Media grant.”

The grant follows a second round of funding of $5 million that the publisher secured in May from private investment.

We R Interactive has previously published titles such as browser game I Am Playr using its Muse platform.
