Unity 5.2 pushes engine firm's new services

Also adds Project Morpheus support and native Visual Studio integration

Determined to further establish itself as more than just a game engine provider, Unity’s latest update concentrates on its other developer services.

Available now, Unity 5.2 introduces the Services Window, which gives devs easy access to Unity Ads, Unity Analytics, Unity Cloud Build and Unity Multiplayer within the editor itself.

Unity Ads is fairly self-explanatory, with the company claiming it is “rapidly becoming one of the world’s most widely used game advertising networks”. Meanwhile Unity Analytics offers more insight into how players are interacting with your game, giving you better information on how to improve it.

Unity Cloud Build automatically creates builds for multiple platforms simultaneously, and is designed to make each version of your game easy to download and share. Finally, Unity Multiplayer handles much of the logistics when it comes to networking mulitplayer games. It applies to mobile, desktop, console and web games.

There’s more than just services in Unity 5.2, with the most notable addition being support for Sony’s VR platform, Project Morpheus. Unity 5 can now deploy to Morpheus, Oculus Rift and Samsung’s Gear VR.

Support has also been added for Windows 10 and Microsoft’s new Universal Windows Platform. There is also a much tighter native integration with Visual Studio. The Unity installer will now offer to install the free Visual Studio Community 2015 and Visual Studio Tools for Unity, formerly known as UnityVS.
