Engine firm Unity Technologies has made the Indie version of its Unity engine available for free.
Previously sold for $200, Unity Indie has also been renamed simply 'Unity', with the $1500 version remaining as 'Unity Pro'.
“Now anyone can create interactive content with a best of breed tool without any financial barrier,” the firm said, writing for Develop in a new regular feature about its technology, due to be published soon on this website.
The new pricing comes into effect with version 2.6 of the engine and was announced at the firm’s yearly conference, Unite, which took place today in San Francisco.
We’ll be reporting from Unite all this week.
