Unity taking Women In Gaming speaker series to colleges

Engine firm Unity Technologies is ramping up its efforts to increase diversity in the games development workforce with a new addition to its Women In Gaming initiative.

The venture launched back in May and sees a series of speaker sessions and workshops hosted around the world, bringing in notable female games developers to discuss how their peers can improve their skills and advance their careers.

In addition to upcoming events in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Unity has now announced it will take Women In Gaming to numerous colleges in the US and Canada. Speakers include a range of female developers, who will talk to young women about the path to a career in the games industry as well as their own experiences.

The events will be free to attend and open to high school and college students. Each talk will be followed by a four-hour workshop will teach them the basics about using Unity, covering workflows, scripting, audio, physics and more.

The current schedule is below:

• September 27th: University of Texas, Austin – Speaker: Astire Games founder Megan Johns
• October 15th: Unity HQ, San Francisco – Speaker: Temple Gates Games co-founder Theresa Duringer
• October 29th: University of Washington – Speaker: WG Cells producer Brittany Aubert
• November 12th: Montreal – Speaker, IGDA executive director Kate Edwards
• November 19th: University of Southern California, Los Angeles – Speaker: Versus Gaming Network CCO Brandii Grace
