Valve working to improve discoverability on its digital store with user-created tags

User tagging comes to Steam

Valve has added user tagging to Steam, giving customers a new way to search for and aggregate content on the digital store.

The new system allows for tags to be set for genres, themes and other attributes defined by the Steam community.

The most popular tagged products, by genres and overall, appear on a new hub page of their own, so users can see them at a glance.

Last week, Valve launched a Recently Updated section on the store, in order to give users more ways to “discover interesting content on Steam”.

Steam is one of the first stores to have opened its tagging system for community use. Tagging systems themselves have become a firm fixture of social media, such as Twitter or Facebook, but major online retailers, like Amazon, are yet to yet users aggregate their own shopping experience with tags.
