Wild Tangent has opened a new game studio in Seattle, marking the company's entrance into mobile development.

It has been four years since Wild Tangent shuttered its last in house studio and took up its current role as a digital distributor and advertiser.

Joined by former Pop Cap Studio art director Rick Schmitz, the first title will be a mobile version of the popular Polar Bowler.

With brand new mechanics appearing alongside familiar polar bear and his penguin butler, Wild Tangent hopes this new offering will make a splash in the mobile marketplace.

"The time is right for us to create a mobile studio,” said executive VP of product development Matt Shea.

”We have a number of games already in the queue and will be aggressively hiring to add to our existing talent pool already on board.”

Founded in 1998, the company was one of the first to adopt a business model focusing on web-based free to play games backed by a digital currency in 2006.
