Windows 10 will be free for Raspberry Pi 2 developers, Microsoft has announced.

Those who sign up to the Windows Developer Program for the Internet of Things who be able to get acquire the OS at no charge when it’s released later this year. Those who register will also get access to Microsoft’s development tools and services for free through the scheme.

“Raspberry Pi has quickly become one of the Maker community’s favourite platforms because their highly-capable, low-cost boards and compute modules enable developers to bring their vision to life,” said Windows IoT group GM Kevin Dallas.

“Raspberry Pi 2 is a surprisingly powerful device that opens up the world of computing and programming to a huge range of people and skill levels. We are excited about our work with the Raspberry Pi Foundation and to share that Windows 10 will support Raspberry Pi 2."

More details will be revealed in the coming months.

The move comes on the back of the unveiling of the Raspberry Pi 2. The new version of the credit card-sized computer is said to be six times more powerful than previous iterations.
