Farmville studio strikes huge financial backing from Japan-based venture capitalists SoftBank.

Zynga scores $147m investment

Social games giant Zynga is taking a $147 million investment from Japanese telco Softbank, according to a report in Business Week.

Citing two people familiar with the deal, the report claims that mobile will play a key role in the partnership between the two companies:

"Softbank and Zynga have discussed distributing and jointly promoting games through Softbank’s mobile-phone service in Japan and other countries…"

Zynga announced its latest iPhone game last week during Apple’s WWDC keynote – it’s bringing Facebook hit Farmville to Apple devices.

The company isn’t new to the App Store though: it launched several games including Live Poker in the early days of the App Store, before stepping back to focus on its online growth.
