Mirror’s Edge and Battlefield studio DICE is interested in developing for VR – but its first effort won’t be a port of something you’ve already seen.
Speaking to IGN, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst lead producer Amo Mostofi responded to the suggestion that the first-person free-running game would be a good fit for VR by insisting the developer would only consider creating completely original experiences for the medium.
"I think this game has so much potential – it’s the best and the worst – but from our end, we never specifically looked at Mirror’s Edge as a VR vessel,” he explained.
“I think if we are ever going to do anything with VR, we would want to build something specifically for VR."
He confirmed that DICE had been exploring creating for headsets such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but added: “If we do it, we should do it right.”
"As a studio, it’s definitely something we’re looking at,” he said. “I think the important thing here is that VR is such a different thing.
“So, it’s going to take research and it’s going to take a proper implementation for it."
