Dota 2 surpasses 40m players, user activity on the rise – EEDAR

Dota 2 has seen its community swell past 40m players worldwide this month, but perhaps even more impressive is the level of user engagement Valve’s free-to-play MOBA has maintained throughout its rise.

Games Industry reports on new findings from EEDAR, indicating that Dota 2 has been one of the main factors in the continued growth of Valve’s Steam platform over the past year.

According to the report, EEDAR samples Steam accounts daily to better understand player behavior and title performance.

Their data suggests that the number of Steam accounts with Dota 2 installed has increased 85 per cent in the past year to 42.9m as of this month – meaning more than 34 per cent of Steam users currently own the game.

User activity is also on the rise – Dota 2 monthly active users have increased 54 per cent over the past year, with the game hitting a new peak in daily concurrent users earlier this month as well. And more than 8m players have logged at least 140 hours of gameplay.
