First act of adventure title to be released nearly two years after hitting Kickstarter

Double Fine’s Broken Age lands with backers tomorrow

Double Fine’s crowdfunded adventure game Broken Age will be released for backers tomorrow.

The title shook up how games are financed in 2012 when it took crowdfunding by storm and raised $3.3 through Kickstarter, despite having only asked for $400,000.

The excitement generated from Tim Schafer and Double Fine’s new title and financing method sparked a wave new crowdfunding projects fromd developers seeking to finance their titles through their fans instead of seeking a publisher or investor.

But following development delays to Broken Age and going over budget, last year Schafer revealed that the game would be split into two acts as it looks to raise more money and complete the game as it has envisioned.

The first act will now be released to Kickstarter backers on January 14th. An official release date for the wider public will also be announced tomorrow.

"Haven’t shipped a game of my own in 4.5 years, an adventure game in 16, a point-n-click in almost 20. Next Tuesday is going to be exciting!" tweeted Schafer.
