Dragon Quest Heroes helps keep PS4 and Vita on top of the Japanese hardware charts for a second week

Square Enix’s new Dragon Quest spin-off has helped Sony’s PS4 and Vita place top of Japan’s hardware rankings once again.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Yamiryu to Sekaiju no Shiro, the first action-RPG in the long-running RPG series, debuted at the top of the software chart, with the PS3 edition of the title outselling its PS4 sibling by more than 50,000 units, according to the latest data from Famitsu.

However, it’s the PS4 that came top of the hardware charts, followed closely by the Vita handheld.

PS4 sales rose by over 20,000 units, with Vita sales dropping slightly by around 10,000 units.

It’s a reversal of the consoles’ fortunes last week, when the Vita was crowned top dog of the hardware rankings thanks to the release of Bandai Namco’s God Eater 2 Rage Burst; the PS4 placed second at the time.

Meanwhile in last week’s hardware chart, PS3 sales grew slightly, overtaking Nintendo’s New 3DS and the Wii U.

The Vita version of God Eater 2 slipped from first place to fourth, while the PS4 edition of the game is completely absent from this week’s Top Ten, having claimed third position the week previous.

Further down in the software Top Ten, the only other new entries were Idea Factory’s Diabolik Lovers: Dark Fate and Furyu’s fellow Vita effort Yuki Yuna wa Yusha de Aru: Jukai no Kioku. The titles claimed sixth and seventh place, respectively.
