A free-to-play entry in Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma series has been unveiled for release in Japan later this year.
Japanese gaming publication Famitsu broke the news of the new title, following weeks of speculation fuelled by trademark filings in Japan and Europe.
The first Dragon’s Dogma was released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, and has sold more than 1.3 million units since. An expanded edition of the game, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, followed in 2013.
Dragon’s Dogma Online is expected to feature RPG combat and gameplay similar to the first game, taking place in an open world and allowing players to explore with a party of up to four player- or computer-controller characters.
The free-to-play title is expected to land on PS4, PS3 and PC later this year in Japan.
While the European trademark filing had raised hopes of a future release in the UK, a Capcom representative speaking to Eurogamer confirmed that there were no current plans for an international release.
