New Canadian studio Precursor Games has hired Denis Dyack to work as chief creative officer on a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness.
Pledges are now being welcomed at the official site. It is aiming for a not insignificant $1.5m, of which it has raised $88,127 from over 1,400 backers with 30 days to go.
IGN confirmed Dyack’s involvement in the game which is to be called Shadow of the Eternals. It will be an episodic release spread across 12 releases on PC on Wii U.
Amazingly, the current crowdfunding target is to fund ONLY the first episode, although Precursor insists that later episodes will be far cheaper to produce.
The minimum pledge is $5 although this only includes the first episode. A $25 pledge will net you the first six. Backers will have to pay $50 to buy the whole game. Various pledges are available all the way up to $10,000.
The first release is currently pencilled in for Q3 2014.
The original Eternal Darkness was released in 2002 by Dyack’s Silicon Knights as a GameCube exclusive – which is possibly part of the reason why it has grown to become such a cult hit.
However, controversy was to follow Dyack’s studio. After releasing just three titles in the following nine years by the end of last year Silicon Knights was down to a handful of employees, with Dyack himself coming in for some pretty extreme criticism.
