E3 08: Nintendo hits out at rivals imitations

Nintendo has stated at its E3 Media Briefing that the success of Wii and DS has led to ‘imitators’ trying to re-create the features that have made Nintendo’s platforms the market leaders.

Both Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and US boss Reggie Fils-Aime took a swipe at companies that the platform holder believes is ‘re-producing’ its ideas.

Iwata kicked things off by stating: There is still work to be done breaking down barriers. We know from experience that even if an idea is revolutionary, people still get bored of it – this happens even more if people try to re-produce what has been done before.”

We at Nintendo always challenge ourselves to be pioneers. We hope you enjoy the ones we have today.”

Wrapping up Nintendo’s E3 Media Briefing, US boss Reggie Fils-Aime cheekily added: It’s inevitable that when the paradigm shifts, imitation is just around the corner. The next challenge is to disrupt your own thinking.”

In case you missed it, there was plenty more from today’s Nintendo E3 Media Briefing at the Kodak Theatre – three major new first party titles Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music and Animal Crossing: City Folk were unveiled, while the surprise announcement that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars would be heading to DS this year certainly raised a lot of eyebrows.
