E3 2011: Wii 2 to be called Nintendo?

The successor to the Wii, currently known as Project Cafe, Wii 2 or Wii HD, may in fact be called ‘Nintendo’, that’s according to Game Informer.

The US specialist publication speculates that a philosophy in simplifying naming conventions is the reason Nintendo’s next console will simply be called ‘Nintendo’ or ‘Nintendo HD’.

Another popular rumour is that will be the ‘Nintendo Stream’, due its believed ability to send data, including entire games, to its controllers, which are said to have a six-inch touchscreen.

The Japanese company took the decision to name the Wii after their vision for the console’s social potential. Others have suggested they will simply continue with the Wii branding.

Given the secretly around Project Cafe, we’ll likely have to wait till Nintendo’s press conference tomorrow to learn more.

MCV will be live blogging all of the pre-E3 conference. You can make a note of the times here.
