Electronic Arts has accidentally revealed a new three-location development studio, according to unconfirmed reports.
EA had let slip the existence of new outfit Victory Games, and plans to reboot the Command & Conquer series, according to news site Rock Paper Shotgun.
It appears as though EA has removed the studio’s website from public view.
Images of the Victory Games logo (pictured) have been screen-captured and widely distributed, although it is not yet confirmed to represent a studio.
It is said Victory Games is based in three locations; Los Angeles and Texas in the US, Shanghai in China.
For a three-studio outfit to be hidden from public view for any stretch of time is largely unheard of in the modern connected world. For EA to leak it itself at the eleventh hour, as suggested, is extraordinary.
It is said that Jon Van Caneghem has been appointed studio head, according to reports. In 2009 he left MMO publisher Trion Worlds amid rumours of disorder at the company.
He went on to work at EA Los Angeles – renamed Danger Close – but it appears he has moved on again.
“Our current focus is making a AAA Command & Conquer game, which I am very excited to be working on…” he is quoted as saying on the closed EA website.
Van Canegham said the studio is working on “a Command & Conquer game for the PC, but we’re not yet at a stage where I can go into any details— we’ll be prepared to make a more formal announcement later in the year. We’re not just working on a game, though.
"Our general focus is on the future of Command & Conquer. That means updating a lot of the core technology to create a stable base for future development, and leveraging that work on this first game.”
