Hires renowned comic author Warren Ellis for 'groundwork' on sci-fi survival horror game

EA continues cross-media talent push for Dead Space

Not only is EA looking to diversify its new survival horror IP Dead Space into other media – with a prequel comic recently released and an animated film on the way – but it’s also bringing in experts from other media to directly influence the development of the game.

In addition to the recently-released trailer directed by Saw director James Wan, it’s also hired famed comic writer Warren Ellis to work on background writing for the game.

Writing on his blog, Ellis said: "I wrote a bunch of the groundwork, backstory and structure on the forthcoming EA videogame Dead Space, which recently got a comic prequel from the hands of Antony Johnston and Ben Templesmith. I believe there was at least one other writer on the project, but I’m sure there’s some of me in there somewhere."

Later elaborating, Ellis said that the contributions were done between 18 months and two years ago – going on to call game development ‘a slow old business’. Previous to Dead Space, Ellis had also worked on the games Hostile Waters and Cold Winter.
