EA extends FIFA licence until 2022

Sir Alex Ferguson might be calling time on his relationship with the beautiful game, but EA wants its love affair to continue.

EA has announced an extension to its current licensing agreement with FIFA that runs all the way up until December 31st 2022, Polygon reports.

The deal grants EA the right to use the FIFA brand and maintains its position as ‘presenting partner’ for the FIFA Interactive World Cup.

Sales of last year’s release FIFA 13 have topped its predecessor, hitting 14.5m units during EA’s fiscal year 2013. As part ofEA’s latest financial results, the publisher revealed the sales for the game were up 30 per cert when stacked up against FIFA 12 sales for the prior year.

Digital sales were particularly strong compared to FIFA 12, showing an increase of 94 per cent up to $200m (adjusted, non-GAAP). The franchise as a whole generated $350m in digital net revenue in fiscal 2013.
