EA insists Rock Band iOS is NOT shutting down

The iOS version of music rhythm title Rock Band will not be shutting down at the end of the month, EA has insisted.

That’s despite the game telling owners directly that come May 31st the game will be no longer playable” on their device.

Players started contacting the press yesterday after the game started putting out the following message on boot-up: On May 31, ROCK BAND will no longer be playable on your device. Thanks for rocking out with us!”

Note the language – the warning doesn’t mention server shutdowns. It simply says that the 2.99 game will stop working!

EA, however, moved quickly to dismiss concerns, saying the game will not be killed off. It hasn’t, however, given a decent explanation about the meaning of the message.

"Rock Band for iOS will remain live – the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error," a publisher spokesperson told Polygon.

"We apologise for the confusion this caused. We’re working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible."

It does seem, however, that the game’s servers will be shut down on May 28th.
