Series reboot gets multiplayer offering by Deus Ex team

Eidos Montreal making Tomb Raider multiplayer

The upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider will contain multiplayer developed by Eidos Montreal it has been confirmed.

Rumoured for some time, a multiplayer component to the action adventure game has been confirmed by the next issue of OXM US.

Eidos Montreal was later unmasked as the feature’s maker by Crystal Dynamics community manager Meagan Marie on the Eidos forums.

“Tomb Raider will include a multiplayer offering thanks to the hard work of our sister-studio, the hugely talented Eidos Montreal. The team at Eidos Montreal has been working away at the multiplayer while we focused everything on the single-player offering,” she wrote.

Eidos Montreal was responsible for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The studio is also believed to be working on Thief 4 for next generation console.

Top-down spin-off Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light featured co-op multiplayer, but Eidos Montreal’s effort will mark the first time multiplayer has entered the core Tomb Raider series.

Crystal Dynamics are handling the single-player portion of the reboot, which has been the subject of repeated controversy in the build up to its release.

Eidos Montreal should not to be confused with Square Enix Montreal, a new team assigned to expand the Hitman universe. Square Enx is the parent company for both studios and the franchises they produce.
