Epic’s Samaritan ‘needs ten times Xbox 360 power’

Amidst rumors as to the processing power of the next generation Xbox, Epic Games’ CEO Tim Sweeney told the DICE 2012 audience that a recent tech demo required 2.5 terraFLOPS to run.

That’s ten times the power of the Xbox 360, which is capable of .25 terraflops.

Though the "Samaritan" demo was running in Unreal Engine 3, some have asked if the next generation Xbox will have the computing power to handle it.

It is uncertain what specifications Unreal 4 would require to run the demo, but Epic’s vice president Mark Rein told G4 that the engine could see a reveal sometime this year.

Unreal Engine 4 is anticipated for a 2014 release.
