Big upsets on day one of the Boston Major main event

The main event of the Dota 2 Boston Major got underway yesterday, and already there have been a few big upsets.

Spoilers to follow.

The first elimination round in the single elimination bracket saw The International 6 winners Wings Gaming face off against The International 5 winners, Evil Geniuses. In the best of three EG eventually came out on top, beating Wings 2-0 and sending the reigning TI champions out of the competition in last place.

Following the Wings EG match was SEA team WG.Unity facing off against compLexity Gaming. Many predicted this as an easy win for CoL, as WG were a surprise to even make it to the event, are reported that they lost all of their scrims while in Boston. However WG managed to pull out a 2-0 win over CoL sending them home in last place.

The other two series went pretty much as expected. Virtus Pro beat IG.Vitality 2-0 and OG beat MVp Phoenix 2-0. The teams that went out in last place still net a cool $62,500 while the teams that made it through to the next round are guaranteed at least $125,000.

Today sees the lower half of the bracket play in the round of 16, the final four teams in last place will be decided with the winners heading into the quarter finals.
