The Call of Duty World League will again return in 2017, with MLG unsurprisingly taking the lead.
Throughout 2017 there will be more open LAN events than in 2016, with the CWL Las Vegas Open, the CWL Atlanta Open and the CWL Anaheim Open all already confirmed for North America. Vegas takes place between December 16th and 18th, Atlanta takes place between February 10th and 12th and Anaheim takes place between June 16th and 18th. Events for other regions such as Europe will be announced soon.
The main portion of the CWL in 2017 will be an offline LAN league taking place at the MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Sixteen teams will make up the CWL Global Pro LAN League, with nine NA teams, six EU teams and one APAC team all heading to Columbus in April.
The league will be divided into two stages. In the first stage the top eight teams from the league will play in the playoffs and the bottom four will compete in the relegation tournament. Then in stage two the top eight will again play in the playoffs, however all sixteen teams from stage two will be automatically guaranteed a spot at the 2017 Call of Duty World Championships.
CoD champs will be returning with a similar format to 2016, 32 teams will compete in the event, with sixteen teams coming from the LAN League and sixteen coming from Last Chance Qualifying LAN events.
Teams that don’t make it into the LAN league can compete online and in open events to secure CWL Pro Points. Teams with the highest amount of points will be invited to qualifying events.
Finally the prize pool for the CWL has been increased, with the entire season offering up $4 million.
