Chiefs upset North in phenomenal CS:GO comeback

An elimination match to wrap up the second day of IEM Sydney ended up providing one of the most exciting comebacks in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive history.

CS:GO team North faced off against one of the event’s Australian teams, Chiefs, and for Danish team North, victory seemed like a safe bet: Chiefs’ sole victory had come against Renegades, before losing against Astralis and OpTic. North, however, had defeated OpTic in a triple-overtime situation before losing against SK Gaming and FaZe Clan. North had the added advantage of ending the first half of the final match 10-5 in their favour.

For Chiefs, this just meant the stage was set for a phenomenal comeback. Top notch performances from Josh “INS” Potter and Alistair “AliStair” Johnston pushed the scoreline to 13-16 in Chief’s favour, sending North home with one of their worst results to date and sending the Aussies through to the next round.

Sadly, Chief’s good fortune was short lived. The Australian team went on to the deciding round of the group stage and lost, again, to OpTic. They’ll no doubt feel proud of their performance however, showing the team are very capable of clutching a win.
