Cloud9 win inaugural Vainglory Unified Western Live Championships

North American team Cloud9 has been crowned the winner of the first ever Vainglory Unified Western Live Championships, held in Building Six of the 02 Arena in Greenwich, London this weekend.

The tournament marks the end of several weeks of online competition on the mobile MOBA, with the Vainglory Spring Championships pitting North American and European teams against each other for the first time in an official tournament organised by developers Super Evil Megacorp.

This all kicked off on Day 2 of the tournament, where cross-regional play occured for the first time and showed the differing styles between North American and European styles of play. The North American’s aggressive playstyle won out overall though, with only one European team, G2, making it as far as the semifinals. G2 themselves lost to Gankstars, an underdog team that went on to fight for the finals against Cloud9.

“The finals against Gankstars was intense as we were playing

against our former teammates,” said Gabe ‘gabevizzle’ Villarin of Cloud9 in a canned statement. “We knew there was a good chance we were going to play as a top team and although we struggled at some points during the semifinals against TSM we stayed together to pull out a win during the finals. We’re already looking forward to the Summer Championships and competing with everyone again.”

You can catch up with all games from the mobile tournament on Youtube, with each day’s 7 hour show now uploaded.
