Chris “Dubby” McFarland, the winner of the Madden Bowl competition, has been fined $3,000 by EA for inappropriate tweets.
During and immediately after the competition McFarland posted a number of Tweets, which have since been removed, that EA deemed to be unacceptable. As a result they have fined the played $3,000, which will be taken from his $75,000 prize from the competition. 100 championship points were also deducted.
McFarland has been a controversial person on Twitter. During the competition tweets where he used racial slurs were uncovered, and he then went on to call out people who were searching through his years of tweets to find dirt on him.
Since being fined McFarland has sent a statement over to Polygon where he accepts the punishment handed down to him.
“I have accepted the consequences and plan on representing both myself and the game of Madden positively,” said McFarland in his statement to Polygon. “[A lot] of what I said was outta passion and emotion at the time. I understand everything that I did wrong and accept responsibility for my words.”
