ESL announces pair of top level executive hires

ESL has announced two top-level hires as the company looks to expand into new areas.

Rodrigo Samwell has been named as ESL’s new chief marketing officer, and Martin Hubert will take the role of chief revenue officer.

“This is an exciting time for the global esports industry with ESL at the heart of this massive ecosystem,” said Ralf Reichert, ESL’s global CEO and president. “These new executive hires reflect the company’s global focus to better service our growing roster of partners, publishers and sponsors, and add expertise in key areas such marketing and sales. We are excited to welcome Martin and Rodrigo to the team.”

Samwell will be the global CMO, and his role will see him involved in deciding the company’s path on product marketing, brand strategy, communications, innovation, licensing and analytics. Samwell comes from Vodafone Group, where he’d held a number of executive roles at the company, with his most recent being the group head of marketing strategy at Vodafone, a role that involved Vodafone’s efforts in esports.

Hubert’s role as Global CRO will see him attempting to grow ESL’s revenue worldwide. Hubert comes from Zalando Media Solutions, where he was both the vice president of Zalando but also the CEO of Nugg.ad, one of Zalando’s subsidiaries.

The news comes after just two weeks ago ESL revealed it would be cutting several positions within the company around the world. This is further evidence of ESL’s restructuring efforts.
