First Blizzard backed Overwatch tournament heads to SEA

Despite being out for almost a year at this point there has never been a Blizzard backed Overwatch tournament in the South East Asian region, until now.

The Overwatch SEA tournament is open to players from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand and features a $5,000 prize pool, which is a pretty good start for a smaller region.

Signups for the event are open now, with anyone free to participate in the competition. The qualifiers will decide the teams that make it into the group stage, which begins on April 1st and runs until April 23rd. The top teams from this group stage will then be invited to play in the finals on May 6th.

The winning team will walk away with $2,500, with second taking $1,250, third grabbing $750 and finally fourth getting $500.

It certainly isn’t the biggest competition in the world but it does give a struggling region some hope, and a successful event should mean more in the future.
