HTC makes eSports move, sponsors three professional teams

Smartphone manufacturer HTC has made a big move into the eSports sector by sponsorting no less than three professional teams.

The Verge reports that the Chinese company has sealed sponsorship deals with Team Liquid, Cloud9 and Team SoloMid. Walter Wang and Thomas Chen have also been named as HTC’s new E-sports Project Managers.

The tie up will not only see lots of HTC swag offered as eSports prizes but also the production of video series associated with all three teams.

With HTC’s support, we are looking forward to bringing you new kinds of content,” a Team Liquid announcement said. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Walter Wang and Thomas Chen for their desire to be a part of this scene. They saw value in eSports and reached out to us to become a part of it.”

Big brands and eSports increasingly go hand in hand, with the likes of Coke, Nissan, Intel, HBO and – lest we forget – YouPorn having all reached out to forge commercial partnerships with eSports organisations and brands in the past year.
