Team EnVyUs confirm rumoured eight-figure investment and relocation to Texas

Team EnVyUs has confirmed reports that it has received an eight-figure investment from Hersh Interactive Group on Monday, in addition to the news that Team EnVyUs is relocating from Charlotte, North Carolina to Dallas, Texas.

The news was reported by ESPN, who claimed the organisation had received $35m from the group and was planning to relocate to Texas. Later, ESPN also reported that the team would be looking to buy a Dallas slot for the Overwatch League.

CEO Mike Rufail issued a press statement that confirmed the relocation and investment, if not the Overwatch League bid.

"In order to be the best esports team in the world, you have to be playing the best esports games and have the best partners," Rufail said in the release.

"We’re doing that while cultivating a growing, engaged, and loyal fan base for Team EnVy. EnVy teams have played live in front of tens of thousands of fans at some of the largest arenas in the world. There is nothing like being surrounded by 20,000 passionate fans in a live setting, and with the support of Ken Hersh and Hersh Interactive Group, we will build that type of thrilling fan experience in Dallas."

The hope of both organisations, according to the press release, is to use the funding to make North Texas internationally renowned in the global esports market, and to establish a variety of systems to promote player health and wellbeing.
