After a difficult season one of the biggest names in League of Legends, or even all of eSports for that matter, has been relegated from the North American LCS.
Team Liquid ended the regular season with a record of five wins and 13 losses, putting them in ninth place out of ten. This poor result means that they will have to play in the promotion tournament, where they will face off against two teams from the Challenger Series and Team EnVyUs, who ended the split in last place. The two winners of the promotion tournament will play in the LCS for the Summer Split while the losers will play in the Challenger Series.
Gold Coin United, which has some serious financial backing, and eUnited are the two teams from the Challenger Series that Liquid will have to beat if they want to make it back to the LCS. Both have proven to be strong teams so it certainly won’t be easy.
This is the first time Liquid has been relegated from the LCS , with the team usually sitting towards the upper half of the standings. However a poor start to the season saw them towards the bottom and even roster changes mid way through the split weren’t enough to save them, as a loss to Flyquest on the last day of the season confirmed their relegation.
