Twitch opens up to non-gaming content with IRL section

Twitch has announced a new section called IRL that allows streamers to broadcast non gaming related content.

Until now Twitch has only allowed gaming or creative content, although the introduction of the food section and the many Bob Ross marathons made this rule a little pointless. Now that rule has been abolished and an IRL section added to allow streamers to broadcast almost anything.

The section will allow broadcasters to communicate with their audience without the need to be playing a game, and it means broadcasters can do personal streams live from events such as PAX, without having to stand in front of a game.

“We’re amazed by our creators who build thriving communities and create compelling content for millions of viewers,” said Emmett Shear, CEO of Twitch. “While gaming is their core identity, what we’ve heard repeatedly from them is that they are interested in sharing their everyday lives, thoughts, and opinions with their communities. IRL is designed to help our creators foster that kind of community interaction.”
