Wings Gamings’ DOTA team renames to Team Random ahead of Kiev Major

Wings Gaming’s DOTA 2 team have announced that they have left the organisation, and intend to play under the name of Team Random at the Kiev Major, according to reports.

Wings Gaming’s DOTA roster were responsible for winning The International 6, the biggest DOTA tournament of 2016, and so their departure from their organisation is bound to cause waves.

The news comes from JoinDOTA’s Annabelle Fischer, who broke the news, citing a post on Wings’ Weibo page, which claims that the players will be known as Team Random at the upcoming major event, but doesn’t go into any more detail on the reasons behind the split.

Wings were phenomenally successful in 2016, winning The Summit 5, TI6 and the Northern Arena BEAT Invitational last year, but since then they’ve struggled to recapture the same magic, with a 3rd/4th finish at ESL One Genting being a recent highlight.

The team received a direct invite to the Kiev Major, and they’ll retain this slot despite the renaming.

Wings Gaming haven’t released an English statement yet, and we’ve reached out to them to confirm.
