Microsoft has confirmed the termination of a ‘small’ number of roles at its Vancouver-based game development studio.
Kotaku originally reported the layoffs early on in the day. following a pair of former staff members taking to Twitter. The news adds to the growing pile of game development downers in British Columbia this year.
Microsoft followed up with an official statement on the matter, explaining the roles were no longer necessary after development ceased on Microsoft Flight and the unreleased Kinect project ‘Columbia’ that will now apparently never see the light of day.
As of late last year the project was an educational Kinect title being designed in collaboration with Sesame Workshop, and meant to engage young players by pairing books with interactive music and images.
