FACEIT organising the open qualifiers for the Dota 2 Kiev Major

FACEIT and Valve have announced the details of the open qualifiers for the Dota 2 Kiev Major.

FACEIT will be in charge of it all, including the new Champions Cup qualification tournament that sees Tier 8 Battle Cup winning teams invited to fight it out for a slot in the qualifier. The Battle Cup was a series of in game competitions that anyone could enter.

The open qualifiers have changed ever so slightly since the last outing. The first change is that teams can only compete in their home region, where at least three of the five players live, instead of being able to play wherever they want. This will stop European teams playing in the North American qualifiers, which is exactly what happened in the Boston Major qualifiers.

FACEIT will be responsible for the SEA, Europe, CIS, North America and South America qualifiers, with Perfect World taking charge of China. The first open qualifier for FACEIT’s regions takes place on March 6th and 7th, with the second then running on March 8th and 9th. The winner of each open qualifier will advance to the closed qualifier.

In NA, Europe and SEA the winner of the champions cup will also qualifier for the closed qualifier.

Direct invitations to the main event and the qualifiers are yet to be announced, leaving teams with little time to prepare for a potential open qualifier run.
