Female characters banned from Iranian League of Legends tournament

The scantily-clad nature of the majority of League of Legends’ female characters has led to a ban on their use in an upcoming Iranian tournament.

Kotaku reports that over 35 female characters have been banned with 13 remaining under consideration. Those that could remain are characters that basically wear less revealing clothing.

The site says this is essentially like removing half the pieces from chess” as half of the game’s character roster will be unavailable for players.

In a now deleted comment the Iranian arm of World Cyber Games said that failure to comply with the ruling could result in the complete cancellation of the event, although the organisation claims to be working with the government to try and find a solution.

If it takes place, the tournament will kick off on September 12th.
