Do you want to start or further your career in the social games industry? Here are a couple of things you should know before you apply.
First, update your CV so it’s not backdated to when Dawson’s Creek was at the peak of popularity. Keep in mind that these few pages should represent you. There is no need to write an essay; introduce yourself in just a couple of pages! Emphasize your knowledge, skills and personal interests (during your work experience or education) that are relevant to the position you are applying for.
The second thing is your cover letter – why should you write one and what role does it serve? The truth is actually very simple. It needs to answer the question: Why do you want that particular job? What motivates you to work in the gaming industry? What can you bring to the fast-paced, ever-changing world of social gaming? It’s especially great to highlight knowledge and skills from your current position.
Keep in mind that while you are actively looking for a job, and that you may be sending a lot of applications to a large number of companies, you should make sure you are sending a customised cover letter. You will be surprised at how many people don’t do this!
Third, try the products of the company that you are applying for – why would you want to work for a gaming company without full confidence and knowledge of their product(s)? Last, but not least, be patient. Most likely, the recruiters will take time to review your application and go through interviews for all applicants. If you got good vibes from the interview, just be patient.
