Former King Technical Lead to lead new Berlin base for Hugo Games

Former King technical lead Moritz Voss is joining Hugo Games to head up a new Berlin studio.

Voss previously worked for HandyGames before moving to King to work on Candy Crush Jelly Saga. He is now joining Hugo – the studio behind Kings of Soccer and Ronaldo & Hugo: Superstar Skaters – to lead on match-three puzzle games for existing franchises, commencing with a game based upon the comic series, The Adventures of Tintin.

"I’m very excited to join Hugo Games and use what I have learned and experienced over the recent years at King," Voss said in a statement. "I plan to bring together a strong and hand-picked team of my own here in Berlin that can execute on Hugo Games’ strategy of making successful mobile games based on global IPs."

"We consider the hire of Moritz Voss as our new studio lead as a major coup because of his track record at King studio – one of the most successful mobile gaming companies in the world," added Hugo CEO, Henrik Nielsen (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz). "Moritz Voss was instrumental in building a game studio in Berlin from scratch to over 80 people and we are very proud that he now has joined us for a new challenge at Hugo Games – bringing together a highly experienced Berlin team in the coming months.

"The timing is perfect because Hugo Games is the first mobile developer to be granted the permission to build a puzzle game around the iconic ‘The Adventures of Tintin’ comic book franchise."

Established in 2011, Hugo Games states its "knowledge and passion for gaming has firmly established [it] as a leading global developer and publisher of high-quality games for smartphones and tablet devices". The studio believes the company cannot be sustained on "one winning product" so concentrates on diversifying its portfolio, with a future vision to "have five categories, each featuring one standout IP".
