Two veteran mobile developers have formed a brand new studio that “strives to bring classic analog casual games into the modern age”.
Berlin-based 231 Play has been founded by Matthias and Thomas Hoechsmann, who previously headed up Zynga’s German studio. Originally, the brothers set up Game Doctors – the developer behind mobile hit Zombie Smash – which was later acquired by Zynga.
The duo is already working on 231 Play’s debut title Peppy Pairs Paradise, which is due for release this summer. The title will be based on classic memory games, where matching pairs will help repair the game’s broken world.
The Hoechsmanns say this is the type of game they plan to update for the mobile era going forward.
“There are so many game mechanics that provided casual engagement before the digital age, and yet they have been largely neglected by the mobile space – those that exist are generally straigh ports, with minimal adaptation for their new medium,” said Matthias Hoechsmann.
“At 231, we’re going to bridge the gap between generations of analog and digital games.”
