Fortnite coming to shops just in time for Christmas

Fortnite is coming (back) to the shops on console, with a new physical release announced on PS4, Xbox One and – for the first time – Nintendo Switch.

Tying in with a certain time of year, Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle will be available from November 16 for £24.99 on each format, and will be published by Warner Bros Interactive. The Deep Freeze bundle will also be available as a digital download, though that’s far less exciting.

The timing of this release will surprise literally nobody, as it means there will be a tangible Fortnite presence on store shelves for the present-buying period. But what will a free-to-play game come with to justify its price tag (and it coming in a box)?

Well, the Fortnite: Deep Freeze Bundle comes with a copy of the game, obviously, along with premium content such as the Frostbite Outfit, Cold Front Glider, Chill-Axe Pickaxe, Freezing Point Back Bling, and 1,000 V-Bucks – enough to purchase an in-game Battle Pass, should you so choose. Or outfits, if you’re less interested in that method of progression and more focused on your look.

Fortnite was originally released in a box on Xbox One and PS4, though it’s the free entry digital version that’s done the real business for Epic. Having said that, those who did buy the physical release are now able to sell their copies for much more than they bought them for.

Epic has been busy elsewhere, recently snapping up anti-cheat firm Kamu. Hopefully this means the new owners arriving during the festive period will be safe from nefarious blighters online.
