Trond Arne Aas takes up 'freer role' as chief strategy officer

Funcom CEO steps down as Secret World goes live

The CEO at Norwegian developer Funcom has stepped down from his role on the eve of the release of the studio’s latest title, Secret World.

Trond Arne Aas, who has now been made chief strategy officer, said he had decided to leave the position as he wanted more freedom.

Aas will be “actively” working on the studio’s recently announced LEGO MMO.

Former COO Ole Schreiner has been named as replacement CEO, and will also take Aas’ place on the management board of Funcom.

"I have served as CEO of Funcom for several years and it has been an exciting and rewarding experience," said Aas.

"Funcom has developed immensely during that period and I am very proud of the fact that Funcom has been established as one of the most credible and respected companies in the MMO-space with a strong technology base and a strong product portfolio. Funcom now has two very exciting products heading into the post-launch phase: ‘The Secret World’ and ‘Fashion Week Live’.

“The Company’s financial position is strong and the foundation of the Company’s long-term product and technology strategy is in place. It feels like a very natural point in time for me to make the transition to a new and freer role in the company, but I will remain committed to the Company both as a major shareholder and as an employee."
