Developers create DLC and donate some of their sales to the charity

Game devs raise $122,000 for War Child in Armistice Day Fundraiser

UK charity outfit War Child has raised $122,000 as part of its inaugural Armistice Day Fundraiser after four studios — Wargaming, Ink Stories, Positech, and BlackMill Games — created DLC or by donating a portion of their sales.

Wargaming donated the lion’s share, giving $84,000 after they decided to sell packs of specially designed peace emblems in World of Tanks. Elsewhere, Blackmill developed a seasonal event in Verdun, letting players sing Christmas carols, pelt each other with snowballs and play soccer on a "Winter Truce" map.

"At War Child we’re really overwhelmed by the generosity of the studios that took part. We’d also like to thank all the players who downloaded content or showed their support.," said Wayne Emanuel, War Child’s gaming development manager in a press release.

"War Child relies on support of partners like those who took part in Armistice to be able to provide our crucial work. We are already excited about the next Armistice where we hope we can build on this year’s fantastic efforts and raise even more."

After the success of this year’s Armistice Day Fundraiser, War Child has decided to make the event an annual event with the hope that a recurring event will continue to raise awareness and cash that can be used to help children whose lives have been affected by wars around the globe.
