Retailer GAME is charging customers to try out PSVR, with 10 getting you 20 minutes with Sony’s new VR headset.
Only certain stores appear to be running the promotion, and anyone wanting to try out PSVR must book a slot in advance, so it likely won’t appeal to those who wander into a store when out and about on the high street.
Once you secure your demo there are more than a few rules that GAME insists upon, which were spotted by Eurogamer in the small print. Players must:
- Remain seated at all times and until headset is removed;
- Close eyes and raise your hand if you become uncomfortable and want to stop the demo;
- Remain calm and minimise erratic head and limb movements;
- Stop moving if GAME staff place a hand on your shoulder; and
- Not touch, remove or interfere with the headset or connected equipment except as directed by GAME staff.
Three different options are available for the demo. Dropping 5 will get you a measly 10 minutes in VR, 10 will get you 20 minutes and 15 will get you thirty minutes. But if you have already put a deposit down for PSVR and can prove it you are entitled to a free 30 minute session.
If, immediately after your demo, you decide you simply must have a PSVR for yourself, you can put a deposit down there and then, with the cost of your demo being taken off the deposit price. However if you only come to this realisation a day or two after your demo you will not get the demo cost removed from the deposit.
It’s fair to say the promotion hasn’t exactly gone down well with most people, with some heading to Twitter to voice their opinions.

The payment allows us to ensure that we have dedicated staff manning the PlayStation VR pods who have been fully trained to adhere to best practice demo guidelines. The demos are intended to give our customers access to one of the most exciting new gaming technologies in 2016 and provide them with the opportunity to get a feel for VR before they commit to buy.”
