Game over for online play on Wii and DS

Owners of both Wii and DS will no longer be able to play their titles online from today.

That’s because, as warned back in February, today’s the day when the off switch will be flicked on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service, bringing an end to a host of features once taken for granted on the pair of legacy machines.

Games that will longer be able to connect with others include Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Pokemon.

However, contrary to previous reports several online-related services will remain available on both machines, however, including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video, the web browsers and web shops.
